Katonah, Westchester
Katonah Shopping Center
Celebrating 50 years of Excellence:
The Katonah Shopping Center, located at the intersection of Katonah Avenue and Route 117, is one of the oldest shopping centers in Westchester County. The center, located in Katonah, New York, has been in operation since 1959. Some of the current tenants include Wachovia Bank, the U.S. Post Office, several different restaurants as well as many other valued establishments. The Katonah Pharmacy is the one existing business that remains from the initial group of tenants.
The center, designed by local architects, The Helmes Group, undertook a major renovation in 2007. In addition to addressing certain structural and cosmetic issues, renovating the facade and replacing the signage, sidewalks were added at this time giving the center a fresh, modern look. The center also has 150 parking spaces, making it easy for the customer to park right next to the store that they are visiting. The shopping center prides itself on personal service. As David Firestein, owner of the property since 1989, states, " This is not a large mall dominated by large chain stores.

People appreciate the personal service and friendliness provided in our stores, and it seems to be what makes them continue to come back.We try to never forget that Katonah is a village, and by keeping the center friendly and service oriented, we feel that people will continue to do their shopping right here."
Both merchants and shoppers alike attest to the cleanliness, attractiveness and convenience of the shopping center. The variety of services offered in the center has contributed to it's ongoing popularity. The attractiveness of the center, diversity of shops and services and ease of parking have been major factors in the center's ongoing popularity and success.

Yonkers, Westchester
Cross County Shopping Center
WHEN Cross County Shopping Center, one of the nation’s first open-air shopping centers, opened to much fanfare here in 1954, well-known stars of the day like Martha Raye, Morey Amsterdam and Carl Reiner joined thousands of shoppers for the celebration. The ribbon-cutting was such a social event that 55 years later, Sandra Atlas Bass, the daughter of Sol G. Atlas, the developer, still remembers it, along with the festive hat her mother, Edythe, bought for the occasion.
“It was the place to shop in those days,” Mrs. Bass said.
Over the years, Cross County has fallen into disrepair and many shoppers have migrated to two upscale enclosed malls nearby in White Plains: the Galleria, which opened in 1980, and the Westchester, which opened in 1995. Yet Cross County remained among the largest shopping centers in the country.
The renovation plans include an 11,000-square-foot expansion of Sears and a 75,000-square-foot expansion of Macy’s, the mall’s two major anchors. (Cross County pioneered the concept of a dumbbell-shaped mall, with an anchor store on each end and shops in between.)

The Mall at Cross County.
Cross County Center, also known as Cross County Shopping Center is an open-air shopping mall located in Yonkers, New York, United States. Over 100 stores and restaurants are featured in the mall, including anchor stores Macy's, Old Navy and Sears. The mall is managed by Macerich.
The marquee of the Cross County Shopping Center with Macy's in the background. This marquee is outdated as since this photo was taken, Pay/Half and Disney Store have closed History
Cross County Shopping Center opened in 1954 as the first mall in Westchester County. The original anchor stores were Gimbels (later Stern's, now Macy's), John Wanamaker (now Sears), and F. W. Woolworth Company. Woolworth operated a main store and a garden store in the mall; the former is now mall space, while the latter was converted to Odd-Job Trading before becoming Old Navy.
The Cross County Shopping Center is undergoing a new development and upgrade, starting in 2008 and scheduled to be completed in 2012.
Adjacent to the CCSC and to its south is a newer small indoor air conditioned mall called The Mall At Cross County which has a variety of stores and restaurants and a large indoor parking garage. While not actually a part of the CCSC, its name is so similar and it is so close, that most local people refer to both as The Cross County Shopping Mall, when they tell others they are going there.
